The Curriculum of ITKLI

Curriculum of Instittute of Training for Korean Language Instructors (ITKLI)

Hello, I'm back to the second post about ITKLI. It's been a week and two days, which is one third of the whole program. I'd like to introduce what this program plans to cover for the training. Let's take a look at the table above. This shows all the subhects that consist of the training. I'd say some of them, like about two fifth, are very familiar to me from when studying in TESL, and the rest was all about general linguistics of Korean, pedagogy of Korean language as a second language, and Korean custom/culture.

As looking at the first group out of five groups on the very left column, it is "Systems of Korean" in which includes 1) Introduction to Korean Liguistics, 2) Korean Semantics, 3) Korean Syntax, 4) Korean Lexis, 5) Korean Pragmatics and 6) Studies in Korean Orthography.

In the second group is "General Linguistics and Applied Linguistics". It has 1) Language Acquisition, 2) Constrasive Linguistics and 3) Social Linguisitics

Moving along to the third group of "Pedagogy of Korean Language as a Foreign Language", we'll take 1)Korean Education Program, 2) Teaching Methods of Languages, 3) Pedagogy of Productive Skills of Korean, 4) Pedagogy of Receptive Skills of Korean ,5) Teaching of Korean Grammanr ,6) Teaching of Korean Pronunciation, 7) Evaluation Methods of Korean Proficiency, 8) Teaching of Korean Culture and 9) Material Development of Teaching Korean.

"Korean Custom/Culture" is the forth group, which is the factor to decide pass and fail at the test of qualification of teaching Korean and Korean culture. It has three subjects as 1) Understanding of Korean Literature, 2) Modern Korean Society and 3) Korean Traditional Custom.

And the last group has gotten Yonsei ITKLI program the big fame in the country, which is "Observation and Practice". We'll observe the real Korean classes at Yonsei Univ, have opportunities of developing lesson plans/ materials of each skill of language- Listening/Speaking/ Reading/ Writing. Also, we're assigned to lead a simulated class before we're thrown into a real class to teach by the end of the program.

What do you think about this curriculum?
It's a taste of each subject for the whole process to major in Korean Linguistics/ Literature/ Pedagogy.

Hope I can keep it up with this...
